Design concept for a Family Mausoleum in the Dominican Republic based on Ronchamp Chapel by Le Courbusier and Chapel of St. Ignatius by Steven Holl. To give it a modern, monolithic look, the walls are battered using black colored concrete on the exterior and punctured by linear slit openings, tapered to let more light in. The interior walls are to be white with a Milestone textured finish. The roof is of lighter concrete, supported by blackened steel rods, to appear floating above the structure. The door (not shown) is to be framed by a box of blackened steel. All this is set on a recessed base of black colored concrete slab. The second iteration (white) was conceived to accommodate local construction methods.
Current project in development.
